Hey there! If you're reading this, chances are you're curious about my journey into programming. Let me tell you, it's not your typical "I fell in love with coding" story. Nope. My journey started with a desperate desire to escape poverty.
After graduating from college, I was stuck. I wanted to further my education, but the financial situation was tough. I wrote JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) exams every year from 2018 to 2021, scoring good grades, but still, no money. Scholarship options didn't work out either. By 2021, I had to face reality - university wasn't happening.
That's when I decided to learn a skill. I turned to programming, not because I was passionate about it (at first), but because I needed a way out. Hunger, not love, drove me to code.
My brother and friend, Joel Olawale, introduced me to FreeCodeCamp, where I started learning HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. From there, I moved on to ZuriTraining and other resources. The journey wasn't easy, but I was determined.
Fast forward to today, and I can confidently say that programming has changed my life. It's not just about the money (although that's important too); it's about the sense of accomplishment, the constant learning, and the opportunities that come with it.
Continuous Learning: The Key to Success
Here's the thing: programming is not a destination; it's a journey. There's always something new to learn, a skill to improve, or a technology to master. And that's what I want to emphasize - the importance of continuous learning and improvement.
Don't get me wrong, money is a great motivator, but it's not enough. If you want to succeed in programming (or any field), you need to be willing to put in the work, to constantly challenge yourself, and to stay curious.
From Money Motivation to Programming Passion
So, how did I go from being motivated by money to developing a passion for programming? It's simple - I fell in love with the process. I love the problem-solving, the creativity, and the sense of accomplishment that comes with coding.
Don't get me wrong, money is still important, but it's no longer the only driver. I've discovered a passion that goes beyond financial stability, and that's what I want to encourage you to find too.
Conclusion
If you're reading this, and you're struggling to find your way into programming, I hope my story inspires you. Remember, it's okay to start with a money motivation, but don't stop there. Keep learning, keep pushing yourself, and eventually, you'll discover a passion that goes beyond financial stability.
